MADAGASCAR, where the Rainforest meets the ocean

When describing Madagascar, it’s not fair to use phrases such as “a unique travelling experience”, “a strange and exotic land”, or “a country of mystery and suspense, of beauty and adventure… with warm and friendly people”.

It’s not fair because each description can apply to practically another country in the world and Madagascar is different. Honestly! These are understatements. It’s all of these things together and much more. The “land that time forgot” is nearer the trught.

Madagascar also seems to be the land that travellers and tourists forget. More likely, they are not aware of the delights this country offers them. Perhaps a few hundred hardy, adventurous French, Swiss or German souls go each year, but hardly any from Belgium.

Hopefully this MADAGASCAR DAY will change that and open the way for eco tourists and friends of nature, because that’s what Madagascar has to offer.

Every journey is an adventure on this huge island of contrasts whether is by taxi brousse, car or boat. You wouldn’t think it is the worlds fourth biggest island, this because on the map it is hidden alongside the east Coast of Africa.

But to see it as a part of Africa is wrong. On Madagascar, the wild live evolved separately from Africa and the rest of the world. It was as if this was a testing ground for various species and which is fascinating us for years with its natural wonders. Sometimes you probably think it is the end of the earth, hundred of kilometres from civilization.

But it should be wrong if I didn’t tell you about the nation that was trying to evolve after half a century of French colonialism, nor the equally fascinating and friendly character of its people.

Well, now it’s you chance to become part of this beautiful island and his secrets, simply participate to this unique MADAGASCAR DAY organized by TERRA vzw. Do it this year because  apart from political problems and suffering economic disaster it is also facing ecological devastation, as the forests are desperately torn down to provide survival of the natives but in many cases also huge scale Rosewood Log Export from national parks like the Masoala peninsula.

The economy might recover, but the damage to the land and his primary forest and unique endemic fauna and flora is irreversible.

Please DO NOT FORGET to register your seat for TERRA MADAGASCAR DAY 2010 in Antwerp November 27th, 2010(free of charge)
